Until I give you the go-ahead, anyway. Looks like I caught the mononucleosis from Typhoid Sue. (I have to come clean—we've been known to kiss from time to time.) If I am ever able to move from this spot on my bed again, I will go to the doctor. If.
It's hard to describe that overwhelming loss of energy that comes with mono. I always thought that was a useful fiction mono sufferers worked up to sucker people into giving them spongebaths and what have you. As if your bones have been swapped out for Fruit-Rollups, or your shoulders were tasked with holding up the atmosphere. Not sleepy, but pretty fucking tired.) Don't know if this means I'll be doing more or less blogging . . . the provisional plan is to use this space to throw an altogether unprecedented pity party. And to get Susan to bring me comic books.
Posted by Kriston at January 13, 2005 8:16 PMI caught mono in college... twice! Well, the second time was technically a relapse.
Its very frustrating when you are told that, because this is a virus, there is no cure. Or... maybe there is better medicine for this now?
But, I recall that I would wake up in the morning full of energy and feeling great. Then, sometime between about noon and 2, I would feel like I had just come home from working a 13-hour workday. You know.. when you go to work at 8, eat a quick bite for dinner and return to work at 5:30 because of a big project or deadline... you stay at the office 'til 10 or 11.. you get home and you feel dead tired. That is how I felt just after lunch each day. Then I'd sleep several hours and wake up early that evening feeling pretty good. But by 9 p.m., I was already exhausted and retired for the night.
It was awful. I had to learn to be way more disciplined with my time since there wasn't hardly any time... a discipline I've somewhat lost since then.
Kriston, hopefully you don't have it as bad as I did back then. But even milder mono can be a real pain. I hope you feel better and get over this soon. Get some rest and try to not blog too much.
My Advice:
(1) Sleep as much as you feel like... and don't feel a bit guilty for sleeping. If you feel sleepy, SLEEP!
(2) When you are not sleeping, do GET SOME EXERCISE EVERYDAY... this builds your body back up. If you don't normally exercise... START! This is important because sleeping excessively can atrophy your body. The extra excercise counter-acts this.
(3) Eat VERY HEALTHY... avoid junk food... take a supplemental vitamin, etc. (watch "SuperSize Me" again if you need motivation here)
Save some miracle drug that I don't know about, these are the best ways to get over mono quickly.
Also, it takes ALL THREE of these! 2/3 doesn't cut it. I know from experience! You have to do ALL 3 DAILY!

Posted by: Franklin at January 13, 2005 10:58 PMThanks, guys.
Everybody else, you're invited to the pity party today. I could use some advice on stimulants—I'm dying over here.
Posted by: Kriston at January 14, 2005 10:04 AMIf you're not too drained you could always use some over-the- counter cold meds to cook up meth in your bathtub. That should wake you up. A.S.S. sends its sympathy.
Posted by: R™ at January 14, 2005 12:24 PMKriston, be sure and make yourself eat something once a day or so, although you're not going to be hungry and it'll hurt to swallow food. And get lots of fluids.
I had adult mono right around your age and it just kicks your ass, there's not much that can be done. You should go to the doctor just to get some hydrocodone or loretabs, some kind of narcotic to help ease the throat pains and body pains. And if the symptoms last too long you might want to get a steroid dose like Susan did.
I feel for you dude. I'd be cooking for you and buying you magazines if I was anywhere nearby.
Feel better soon. --s
Posted by: j.scott barnard at January 14, 2005 1:43 PMKriston, I'm sending a big gift basket of pity your way. Hope you feel better soon.
Posted by: Missy at January 15, 2005 9:20 PMOne word, man: Steroids. The clear and the cream; buy them by the gallon. My brother's got the bug right now (which, of course, he got from Sue), and nothing helped him so much as the oral steroids for the inflammation. That and a twenty-pack of sliders from White Castle
Posted by: brendan at January 16, 2005 9:34 PMI have mono right now, I don't feel sleepy but I am extremely drained. The coughing is horrible. I'll cough and cough until I start to vomit, then the vomitting burns my throat and makes the cough worse! Its hard to sleep from that cycle, but when I do sleep its not comforting or satisfying. The way things are going, I can't really keep down liquids (especially food) for more than a few minutes. All of that makes my fever worse because I can't replace the fluids. My father suggested that I drink some electrolyte water because your body absorbs it faster. Its been helping and so far today I've been able to keep liquids down, but still I won't try food yet. I'm not that bold... Anyway, I'm just worried about the mono spilling over from my spring break to school. I'll probably miss the first couple weeks of the new marking period. Sucks a bit.

Posted by: at March 1, 2010 1:37 PMEvery body remembers that men's life seems to be very expensive, nevertheless different people require cash for various stuff and not every one gets enough cash. So to receive good personal loans and small business loan will be a right way out.
