Over the next few days I'll be driving through various parts of the Lone Star State, so you won't see much of me around here—I'll be back next Thursday. For those of you who are reading from the District, there are a couple of should-not-miss events you should fit into your calendar:
Y'all keep the Internets warm while I'm away.
Well that was fun while it lasted. I hope you and Susan enjoyed your stay. I think it made all of remember just how much we miss you both :(

I'd be interested in your take on Raymond's show -- I hope to make it out there to see it soon. The digital reproductions I've seen of some of his latest pieces look very good.

Posted by: David at July 13, 2005 12:27 PMkriston, you're missing all the hot frog-marching action.
come back in august. :)
Posted by: seth at July 13, 2005 1:26 PMI went to the "Landscaping" opening on Tuesday and I thought the show was very good - one of the best I've seen at Fusebox. I think the group show format served the gallery well. I brought a little atmosphere to their sometimes airless conceptual/design rigor. Jason Gubbiotti has one painting that I think is a real knockout.
Posted by: kiosk Ian at July 14, 2005 12:25 PMCould you hint at what Raymond Uhlir's show with the interesting title looks like? I'm trying to decide if I should drive to Houston to see it.

I'm going to post some thoughts and images, but I'll give you the short version: Uhlir's show features paintings done in a superflat style that reference religious/mythic content and are tempered by cartoon imagery and pop references. There are also a series of drawings. There are two other solo shows at the gallery as well: One by Jenny Miller, who does Lolita-inspired, coquettish collages and is showing two videos; and one by an artist whose name escapes me whose work reminded me of Murakami.
