Arlene Raven was the critic in residence at MICA. As a first year MFA, I was thrilled to work with her since my work touched subjects she knew and advocated for. It is a terrible lost.

I was deeply saddened to find out today about the death of Arlene Raven. Even though I haven't seen her for 30 years, since she was my teacher, friend and mentor at the Woman's Building in Los Angeles, I never forgot the profound influence she had on my life.

Arlene was a brilliant, passionate, beautiful woman who was a pioneer in Feminist Art, Education, and Criticism. The world has lost a unique and exceptional person.

My condolences to her partner and family, and shared sorrow with everyone I once knew at the Woman's Building.

May she be at peace with all the artists in Heaven.
