what's all Wonkette's stuff about DCist and "yes, I went there?"

It's an inside joke and oh how I want to understand the punchline.

Jake Dobkin runs Gothamist, the parent company under which all the -ist sites, including DCist, are operated. It seems to me that the Wonkette analogy refers to the internal dynamics over DCist.

Um, if anybody else wants to say more, he or she may want to pick up here.

I assumed the point is that the -ist franchise is a for-profit enterprise (though, as Dobkin would have it, not all that profitable) that employs volunteer authors, all revenue rendered unto Papa Bear. Is there more to it?
